Not for attention.

I joined social media back in the 90s to meet people, discover art, music, vibes, make friends, learn new things. I’ve never been a fan of the spotlight, or wanted to be famous or important – which is probably good, I’m just not that interesting. What I am, and I’ve always been, is INTERESTED.

I’ve always wanted to hear other perspectives, learn from the experiences of others, share my experiences.

I’ve been on that twitter site starting in 2009, it was much smaller, much friendlier. I met people for food, checked out shows with fellow users, chatted about everything under the sun, but not politics, never politics. I freaking hate politics.

I wanted to talk about Computers and Joy Division and the Sex Pistols and The Headstones, movies, TV Shows, dating, anything really. Last few years, that changed.

I worry about climate – the city I live in? The climate here is vaguely recognizable from my childhood in patterns, but not in reality, in reality, it’s very different. Summers are longer and drier, storms are more vicious, winters are shorter and less predictable. The whole world is a dumpster fire right now, and we can’t afford to waste time fixing what we’re doing.

I worry about politics, the US was closer to democratic collapse in 2000 than many realize even now, and 2022, those who pushed it to the brink still won a concerning amount of the vote.

In Canada, we have a middling, inoffensive, slightly progressive party in charge, and a party that has very similar views, attitudes and strategies to MAGA Republicans waiting in the wings, throwing scandals in the air like snotty tissues hoping one sticks and takes down the government. They want to eliminate the social programs, the rights, the things that make Canada special. And they might pull it off. This worries me as well.

Then there’s SARS2 – Covid19, a multi systemic disease that does brain damage, can lead to heart attacks and strokes, even in mild cases, and it’s one of those things that’s compounding – it can (and often does) damage your immune system, meaning each infection makes you more likely not only to catch IT again, but anything else. Mild cases aren’t a good sign, because it can infect other parts of your body that don’t show symptoms or cause visible problems, because most of your body doesn’t have pain receptors, so you only know something’s wrong when something is damaged enough to stop working properly.

AND we have idiots who fight against masks, and vaccines, and caution, like somehow their personal rights extend to inflicting disease on other people (spoiler: they do not).

SO I started posting about these things on Twitter, like a lunatic, boosting people spreading the right message, quality information, and sharing my own experiences, and my own feelings on them. It’s not the best thing, because I don’t have a lane, it’s 3 major issues that are all intertwined and annoying and frustrating. I want people to listen, to hear, to understand, but because I’ve never been a fan of having an audience, it doesn’t come naturally to me at all.

I even made a youtube channel to post little things about these things.

But what I want?

I want the world to go back to that sane place where people are friendly, and loving, and kind, and interested in music, and television, and don’t have to worry about collapsing medical systems, or climate disasters, so I scream into the void, hoping enough people hear the screams, relate, and join in.

screw the anxiety, I’m doing what I can, a middle aged guy with MS who cares how you’re doing, how you’re feeling, wants everyone to succeed, wants to pet my dog while we watch movies, and not have to worry about the world going down the toilet.

If you read this, thank you, I appreciate it
